Some of the reasons why Manitoba Hydro was selected as one of Canada's Top 100 Employers for 2012:
- unique head office which features quiet rooms available for napping or religious observance, roof top terraces, six-storey glass atriums that function as solar collectors and air exchangers and a 24-metre waterfall that moderates humidity.
- helps prepare older employees for life after work through retirement planning workshops, phased-in retirement work option and contributions to a defined benefit pension plan.
- support employees who are new mothers or adoptive parents with maternity and parental leave top-up payments (to 93% of salary for 17 weeks) and offers a variety of flexible work options for when they return to work.
- in addition to personal paid days off, new employees start at three weeks of paid vacation allowance, working toward a maximum of seven weeks paid vacation.
- encourages ongoing employee development through subsidies for tuition and professional accreditation and a wide range of in-house and online training programs -- employees may also apply for an educational leave of absence after fours years of employment.
This is the 12th year of the competition and the second time Manitoba Hydro chose to participate, winning in both years.
The winners of the competition were announced in the Globe and Mail.
